No kayaks were hurt producing this demo! Yes, there are bugs and things can be made prettier, but hey, it’s a demo 🙂 If enough people need it I can make it production ready. For now it’s a plugin for WordPress but I can port it to other platforms.
Why RAL colors? Well, many kayak brands have them and I found a list on the ‘net. I don’t think you can get your deck lines in RAL colors but I’m lazy. Me personally I think it’s too much to choose from and the many variants make it harder to design. Also, for the kevlar/carbon option I didn’t find any good pictures for the demo but that just needs some photographing and/or research.
For the roadmap I would think using vector images is a win. This app uses mask image replacement but with vector you can just script the color changes. Not that the server loads for an app like this is anything to mention anyway. I did the kayak and masks in Adobe Illustrator which is convenient in any format.
