My kayak rolling friend Carolina wanted an Avataq as a present to her rolling man Nisse. However, I soon found out I was out of good Neoprene glue and couldn’t finish what I promised and started. So frustrating.
So I poked around at home and in my various workshops for a week it seems, just tossing things around and swearing, also trying to order good quality stuff from local sources, GB and even CH. That’s when I found I actually, as a proper kayak shop-a-holic last Winter, had bought 10 tubes of a reasonably good and transparent neoprene glue. So, four hours later and one tube less, an Avataq popped into existence.

Now it needs either sewing or a neoprene tape fixed to the outside. I will go for the tape and see how it handles proper usage.
This is what it looks like after ironing on the tape. I heated the transparent tube for inflating probably a bit too much, so it came off when I demoed the Avataq for Carolina. Embarassing. There are so many things to learn and I wish I had a thousand years to learn them…
UPDATE: It still holds up after 6 months! I will interview Nisse on the handles placement. I think making stiffer handles is beneficial. The “snus box” is for size measure. Everyone knows that size where I live 😉

Just got some pictures from C & N. If the Avataq shouldn’t hold up I’ll just make a new one! Also an image of an avataq in action with Elsa.
